Avengers Assemble: It's Pasha vs the Toxic Mold
Ok, so you know how in the Marvel Avengers movies, Iron Man is, like, the super-est of super heroes? One of the most powerful, resourceful, brilliant, world-saving humans to ever live? Yet still, in the end, against an enormous, evil, soul-crushing foe, even Iron Man needs his team to assemble to help him take it down?
Pasha is Iron Man (Woman) and we are her team of Avengers. Pasha has armored up for so long, not only carrying her young son, Jamie, through the last few years of Lyme Disease hell, but also using the armor of humor, wisdom, and joy that she's built, to help so many of us conquer our own villains, as a leader and coach.
Two years ago, Jamie suffered a tick bite and went from being able to hike mountains to not being able to walk up stairs without help. He has been in constant pain and has missed most of the last two years of school. Pasha's been next to him every agonizing day, meeting all of his extensive physical needs, and hustling to keep both their spirits buoyed and to find healing. She and her husband, John, have poured tens of thousands of dollars into tests and treatments (on average, chronic Lyme Disease costs $30k/year out of pocket).
Recently, they took an enormous, expensive leap, and bought a new house with the hopes that the change would offer restoration. Knowing that Jamie's condition is fragile and that he is vulnerable to environmental hazards, they insisted on multiple inspections. Reassured that the house was clean, they began the arduous task of moving, during a pandemic, with a sick kid, and two full-time jobs.
The inspections were wrong.
While Pasha was still unpacking, Jamie's condition deteriorated further. Onto his chronic pain and weakness came constant nausea, coughing, and headaches. Pasha also started having respiratory issues.
Further testing revealed PERVASIVE, INVISIBLE TOXIC MOLD. In the walls, under the carpet, in all thee wood. It will require a complete basement demolition.
It will take time. And money. So. Much. Money.
This little family is feeling shattered. Pasha and Jamie have to get out immediately. They're setting up a network of places to stay. Travel is difficult. And expensive.
Here's where our Avengers team comes in. We cannot let our super hero and her super kid be broken by this enemy.
If this makes you feel RAGE at the injustice and enormity of it all, join me in Hulk-ing out with our wallets out to help them fight their way through.
They will not be stopped. Our team of Avengers will see to it.
