WHAT HAPPENED
On the night of July 4, the home of Melissa Averso was lost to a fire of unknown origin. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but has deemed to be accidental. The house had been built by Melissa's grandfather decades before and she shared the home with her boyfriend Tim, her son Jordyn, and several animals. Tragically, three cats were lost in the fire, but as Melissa says, "the most important thing is that our family is still here - we all made it out of the house alive."
THE CONSEQUENCES
The house is a total loss and could be demolished as soon as the week of July 13. If that happens, the town would be placing a lien against the property in the amount of $10,000 to pay for the potential demolition. Additionally, because of unfortunate timing, the house was not insured at the time of the accident. Therefore, the Averso family would be left with no home and a $10,000 debt as a result of this incident. Furniture, clothes and food were lost to the fire and while some items were salvageable, everything has undergone smoke and water damage. The family is living with Melissa's sister and brother-in-law in Bristol for the time being.
WHAT IS NEEDED
Due to the generosity of their family, the Averso family has all of their immediate needs of food and shelter met. But what they really need is a new home. They plan to rebuild in the same spot that Melissa's grandfather built, once demolition has been completed and the lien on the house has been lifted. However, it would be great if the family could be starting from zero instead of indebted due to the cost of demolition. Therefore, our goal is to reach $10,000 in order to pay off the debt and get the lien on the property removed. Only then can they start the process of rebuilding.
