Avery & Joy Radford Medical Expenses
Donation protected
6 months ago our dear friend Avery Radford suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm at the age of 30. By all medical standards, this is something that should have taken his life. We are so thankful for the Grace of God who protected and preserved his life, the incredible care and expertise provided by the team of medical professionals at our local hospitals in Columbia, SC, and for the love and outpouring of support from friends and family alike who have surrounded both Avery and his wife Joy with love, encouragement, prayer, meals, and so much more over these last 6 months of recovery.
It has been a long road—one filled with challenges and frustrations, pains and joys, fears and hopes in looking towards the future. Last week, Avery had his follow up angiogram to check the progress and lasting success of the life-saving work done in his brain just 6 months ago. The procedure showed much promise. The stents placed in his brain were accepted and the aneurysm is gone! Praise God!
The next day, Avery experienced some issues with his vision. He and Joy were advised that he go to the ER to get checked out. After many hours and tests, the hospital admitted him as it was discovered that he had suffered some strokes. While looking further into what may have caused this, doctors were concerned about Avery’s heart, and so over his birthday weekend, many more tests were conducted. Unfortunately, as of now, there are not many answers as to what may be going on with Avery’s heart. The cardiology and neurology teams decided it would be best to implant a loop recorder device into his chest to monitor his heart for the time being as they dive deeper into what may be going on. In the meantime, Avery has been released back to his home, and will have multiple follow ups with different medical teams in the coming weeks and months to address his brain, heart, and eyes.
We are trusting that Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals, is not finished with His work in Avery’s body. We are thankful for your prayers and support as we continue to walk forward in this journey.
As you can imagine, with two unexpected and sudden hospital stays, come many complications and burdens to this young couples lives. From countless exorbitant hospital bills, to complete usage and beyond of PTO to recover and recoup, Joy and Avery find themselves in a situation that would feel heavy and overwhelming to anyone in their shoes. The good news is, the Radfords have health insurance. The difficulty is, their coverage is from May to May. This means that because Avery’s aneurysm was in April and his most recent hospital stay was in October, in this one calendar year they will be required to pay their maximum out of pocket expenses twice. I am starting this Go Fund Me to invite the Radfords community far and wide to rally around them and help lift some of their financial load. We, and many of you, have a front row seat to see how they live their lives for the good and benefit of others. We would love more than anything to invite those who have been touched by their lives lived through Love to support them in this way if they are able. $13,000 is the total amount they will need to pay to cover the rest of their bills, as they have received some generous gifts from some friends already. Any amount given to help lessen this load would be received with all gratitude.
With all of our love and deepest thanks,
