Donation protected
This Go Fund Me is to help aid in hospital bills that the Insurance companies do not cover from Avery’s week plus stay at Mercy Hospital. Any and all surplus funds will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House https://www.rmhc.org
Please see her story below:
Miss Avery was admitted into the Emergency Room at Mercy Hospital is Saint Louis on December 26th 2018. She was having issues breathing a fever of upwards of 103°. In the ER she received an IV and was given a low flow Nasal Oxygen Cannul.
She was moved to the Pediatric department within moments of arriving at the ER. Once in a room the doctors increased her oxygen intake, as her Oxygen saturations were not at a high enough level. A chest X-ray and bloodwork were done and confirmed a case of RSV (Respiratory syncytial [sin-SISH-uhl] virus). Through the evening her oxygen intake had to be increased to 4 liters. At that point she had to be moved to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Once moved to the PICU her O2 was turned to 20L of Oxygen per minute. She had increased her fever and her labored breathing increased over night. Early morning she was moved to a CPAP (Continuous positive airway pressure) machine to aid her breathing. The pressure was turned to 50% and was weened to 30% over the next day. During these moments she was also placed on a feeding tube, as she could not feed while on the CPAP
Continuing the stay stay in the PICU, we were weened to High Flow Oxygen and another XRay was taken to confirm that the mucus sheets were clearing from her lungs. And a new feeding tube was inserted. With enough clearing in her lungs we were cleared to move back to the floor. Once cleared to move the tube and IV were removed.
While she continued to ween from breathing aid she has gone as far down as room air for 7 hours and has since been moved back and forth from 0.25L to 0L as needed. Her vitals must maintain through the next couple of days to be discharged.
As of 1/4/2019 we are still in the Pediatric wing recovering.
