Avoid going to a long term facility

Hi to All and I hope that this message will reach the hearts of those who have a minute to read the story and help out if able. My name is Shanika and my mother and best friend was in a severe car accident on October 18,2022. In this car accident she was hit by a speeding motorcycle and suffered tremendous injuries and was in a coma for a month. Dr’s also found out that she had 2 small strokes in which may have been caused by the accident. My mother was born completely deaf ( can’t hear or speak) in which she’s signed all her life. It was really hard seeing Dr’s and medical staff not know how to stimulate her without trying to verbally talk to her. So we had to find different ways to stimulate her on our own. The accident immediately caused her to have a blown left pupil and no reaction at all has been seen from the left eye since the day of the accident. Since she has medically “Awakened “ from her coma we are starting a long road to recovery and making her life as comfortable as possible . In doing so we’ve been told that since she can’t be weaned off her trachea, she’ll have to be sent 2-3 hrs away from us to live in a facility. We’ve asked for a 2nd MRI only to be told that Medicare won’t pay for another 1 so we are applying for additional support through Medicaid to see what part of her brain is damaged or if she will ever be able to fully regain some mobility again. We don’t want our mom to be sent away from us and we need to make our home more accessible for all of the equipment we’ll need and to build a wheelchair ramp to our house so she can stay at home. If anyone has ever faced anything like this my heart goes out to you and your families with deepest sincerity. I hope that this gets to the right set of eyes to read and the right hearts to help us out. Thank You All and stay safe!!
