Awadh's Battle with ALS

On Friday afternoon, he was diagnosed with ALS. On Sunday morning, he stopped breathing.  

Awadh’s family finally knew the cause of his suffering and hoped he had some months to live, but he quickly ended up in the ICU and his health has only continued to decline.


Awadh Pandey is a generous friend and devoted husband and father who has been devastated by the neurodegenerative disease called ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is incurable and progresses from vague symptoms of weakness to muscle paralysis and respiratory failure.

While Awadh’s family was seeking a diagnosis and cure for his symptoms over the past year, they watched the unnamed disease rob him of his strength, work, speech, and memory. His wife lovingly cared for him around the clock and his children came home often to arrange doctor visits and be together as a family. They all remained hopeful that he could get better if they could just figure out what he had.

Before his health deteriorated, Awadh was jovial, social, and charismatic. He was a brilliant rocket scientist and positive force in our community, mentoring young engineers and financially supporting friends, family, and strangers in need. ALS tragically took from him and his family who he was. Its rapid progression and late diagnosis didn't leave much time to prepare.
