THE AWAKENING TREE

The Awakening Tree is an interactive & participatory art installation that is designed to reconnect you with your energy systems. Created by light artist Gabriel Fontanillo and NUR Living Lights collective. The Awakening Tree will make its climbable debut at Burning Man: Waking Dreams this year.

The installation is a 12 meter tall wooden tree sculpture. Inside, there are three tiers of climbable platforms representing our 3 brains, Digestive (Intestines), Circulatory (Heart) and Nervous (Brain). A double spiral helix of LED light string runs up the interior of the tree, cycling through the colors of our chakras, to represent the movement of our Kundalini energy.

The Awakening Tree is here to remind us of who we are and what we are made of. E=mc2, everything is energy. Reconnecting with our essence is the path to true freedom.

THE FUNDementals

We need your help to plant the seed that will give birth to The Awakening Tree. Our talented artists and crew are all volunteers, donating their time and effort to awakening this dream. Our goal of €12,500 will go towards the necessary materials, tools and unavoidable logistical costs. As well as food and safety equipment for volunteers.

Our dream is to sprout The Awakening Tree to 12 meters tall. Thanks to the generosity of our current donors we can currently afford to build the tree 6 meters high. With your support you can help us nurture the tree and watch it grow! Each donation the tree receives will bear fruit for the donors, in the form of a special gift, to show our appreciation. 

Other ways you can help the tree grow is by planting the seed. Help us spread the word by sharing our GoFundMe campaign. This often overlooked little sprout grows into a towering canopy! Please share, tag, like our project to grow it to fruition.

THE ARTIST

Lead artist Gabriel Fontanillo of NUR Living Lights is inspired by biology, energy, light and interactivity.

In 2017 he developed the NOCTILUCA facility in San Pancho, Mexico. An art installation around 1500m3, an installation for a restaurant on the beach in Nayarit. Inspired by the local Noctiluca, bioluminescent plankton. It was his first work of Perceptual Biomimicry, it plays with space and scale perspective to reproduce the visual sensation of being a Nocticula floating in their luminescent cloud of phytoplankton.

The Awakening Tree is the second piece in this line of research, it shrinks our perspective down to that of a particle ascending through the tree's energy system.

Gabriel is currently collaborating with an art center in Albaicin, Granada, where you can experience several installations that you can enter, walk, climb… Interacting from different points of you.
