Gage’s Fight

Recently the Penney family heard the horrific news that no parent ever wants to hear. Tyler and Marlena Penney live in Salmon Arm, BC with their two beautiful children Gage (9) and Savannah(6).

This past winter Gage had been experiencing some issues with his stomach and had been in and out of the Dr’s office and ER, until eventually being airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver on the weekend of January 14/15. A number of tests were conducted and a tumour was found in his stomach, and Cancer was also found around Gage’s stomach walls. Gage has already undergone 2 surgeries and biopsies including bone marrow and spinal fluid (what a trooper!) which resulted in them now learning he has Stage 3 Burkitt Lymphoma which is very fast moving. This means at least 6 months of intensive chemo for Gage.

Gage comes from very tough stock and is in remarkably good spirits with his parents by his side giving him all of the love humanly possible.

Tyler and Marlena are both proud and humble people, and are the last ones to ever ask for help, but the first ones to offer it. Both are extremely giving people that constantly help those around them. Tyler has been a first responder for over 12 years now and the amount of people he has impacted and helped during his career is immeasurable. Marlena operates her own business, running a Spa full-time around Tyler’s ever changing shift-work schedule. As they are both now full-time supporting Gage at Children’s Hospital , their income from Marlena’s business is now completely gone. Savannah is currently staying with Tyler’s parents, in between visits to see big brother. In the coming months there will be numerous financial difficulties to face that we want to erase from their minds so the Penney’s can concentrate on helping Gage fight with all their might.
