Help Get Corey Home!

Donation protected
My name is the Rev. Dr. Arlecia Simmons. I am the village auntie to Corey Manigault, who is recovering from injuries sustained during a violent attack while living abroad and playing basketball.

Limassol AEL’s American basketball player Corey Manigault, 23, was brutally beaten during a brawl outside a club in Nicosia, Cyprus, on November 21, 2021.

Manigault, 23, was hospitalized, intubated, and placed on a ventilator with a brain hemorrhage and hematoma following serious injuries he sustained during the violent assault. He was recently taken off a ventilator at the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital, where he is still being treated and is in stable condition.

His mother, Dr. Sothia Green, my childhood friend and sorority sister, is in Greece working on getting him medically transported back to the United States to continue his recovery and rehabilitation in the DMV.

Corey was born in Charleston, S.C., and graduated from St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Va. He played college hoops with the Lobos Men’s Basketball team at the University of New Mexico.

This fund is authorized in consultation with his mother, Dr. Sothia Green, and resources are needed to transport him back to a safer environment.

Who you are
I am Arlecia Simmons, an educator, minister,  and author who previously served as a senior pastor in Washington, D.C.  More information about me is available at drlecia.com.

Where you're from
I am a  native of South Carolina who also resides partially in Maryland due to contract work.

Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for
I am Sothia Green's friend of 40 years, and we grew up together in neighboring communities. She is the mother of Corey Manigault and is responsible for his medical care.

How the funds will be used (please be specific as possible)

The funds requested here will be used for the cost of the ambulatory air services needed to transport Corey to safety. The initial cost to just consult about the use of service was $5K. The money raised will also cover needed ground transportation once back in the United States and additional medical care. His basketball contract and insurance will not cover these costs. His coach has informed us that the team is also financially unable to assist with expenses.

If you intend to withdraw the funds to your own bank account, how you plan to send the funds to the parties you're raising funds for or use the funds on their behalf

We had hoped to work with a foundation to have the expenses paid and then we could reimburse them; however, the leader of that organization explained that it would take more time than we have to get the requests processed. Thus, I will have to deposit the funds into my personal account and then execute the various payments until Corey and Sothia return to the United States.

A CPA in South Carolina was contacted this weekend to advise us on accounting and tax matters regarding the funds raised. A church accountant has also joined us to maintain records for this process.
