Norman the Neuroma it is time to leave...

Let's back up a bit and tell you about Norman the Neuroma and the Rain's family.

Earlier this year Lexi started having issues with her hearing and having episodes of dizziness. After a hearing test was completed it was found that Lexi had lost appr 60% of hearing in her right ear. With that information, Lexi then had to have more thorough testing and have imaging completed. Once all the testing was completed, the Rain's family finally had answers.

So 8 weeks ago, on June 20th, Justin and Laci received the news that no parent ever hopes to here. Lexi was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor that is affecting her acoustic nerve.

For weeks since the diagnosis, Laci and Justin have been working with several different hospitals and specialists along with their insurance company to find the best plan of care for Lex and now they have a plan.

The Rain's family will be working with UCSD Health in San Diego with Dr. Friedman and Dr. Schwartz. Before a plan of care was developed the physicians wanted to place Lexi on a very high dose of steroids for several days to see if that would improve her hearing. After the steroids were completed, Lexi had another hearing test and she scored 100%!!

So, with that news, the physicians were able to narrow down what type of surgical procedure would be the best option.

On Sept 17th, Lexi will be admitted to UCSD in San Diego and have a procedure to remove the neuroma that is called a Middle Fossa approach. Lexi will have to stay in San Diego for approximately 2 weeks to recover. Norman is the name they have called the Neuroma and it is time for him to be evicted!

We are wanting to spread the word and help take some of this extra weight off the family so they can focus on Lex during this time and not have to worry about extra expenses. While insurance is helping some, it is not covering it all and with the added travel, hotels, food and Laci and Justin not working it can all add up fast.
