Anyone that knows Kaitlin and/or Rocky Road K9, is well aware of who Axel is (more commonly known as Big Dumb). Unfortunately on Monday Nov. 11th at approximately 6:30pm, Kaitlin recognized the signs of bloat. Axel was rushed to the emergency vet over an hour away from home. The vet confirmed bloat with Xrays. Axel is approximately 5 years old, and although we do everything to "prevent" bloat with our dogs, it can still occur. Sadly with Axel being a German Shepherd and weighing in at a healthy 84lbs, he fits the profile of dogs that can potentially suffer from bloat.

Axel was taken into surgery shortly after arriving at the ER vet. Unfortunately we were quoted between Low end: $3,907 - high end: $5,507. I have put the total at 5600 just in case, but will update once we receive the final bill. As of right now we are still waiting for the vet to call us to update us on how surgery went.

Update 11:55pm. Kaitlin just talked to the vet. Axel is out of surgery and waking up. Surgery went well. They flipped his stomach back to place, tacked it, and emptied it. Lots of inflammation, but no apparent damage to tissue or organs. Kaitlin will be picking Axel up in the morning and will continue to monitor him at home. Recovery will take some time, but the vet seems positive.
Update 11/12 9:45am: Axel is home. Surgery went well. I have updated the amount we are trying to raise. We received the final bill and it was less than originally expected. The total was $3,648.00. Thank you everyone for sharing and to those that donated! It means the world to us right now.
