Help Shirley Fight Leukemia
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
Our younger sister and beloved friend, Shirley Chui, was recently diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - a cancer most commonly found in children that affects blood cells and bone marrow. We are hoping to raise money to help alleviate her inpatient costs, chemo treatment, egg extractions and freezing, multiple sets of MRI and PET scans, spinal taps, biopsies, and more, in addition to the follow-up care that she'll need once she pulls through. Her full aggressive chemotherapy treatment will begin at the end of June at the Keck Medicine of USC Norris Cancer Hospital, and the treatment will require her to stay at the hospital for about a month. Following that, it will be another 8-month journey of both inpatient and outpatient care. With limited visitors allowed during this time of COVID, treatment is going to be difficult both physically and emotionally for Shirley and her family members. As this news has been sudden and shocking to all of us, many of you have graciously asked how you can support her monetarily and so with her help, we've set up this fund to hopefully take some of that burden off of her. For anyone who isn't able to contribute, we ask that you please keep her in your thoughts.
For those who haven't met her, Shirley is a ray of sunshine. She is smart and strong, always tries to remain positive, and constantly shares her bright energy with everyone she meets. She is fiercely loyal and always puts others first, especially volunteering her time to help friends and family whenever possible. She's an avid animal lover, often pet sitting for friends and family on her days off just so she can snuggle with dogs. Shirley has always been incredibly athletic, and even as kids we knew she'd eventually turn that into something when she got older. In college, she played D1 softball at St. John's University and found a real passion for coaching and building up her teammates in general. Today she's a proud CrossFit coach in addition to so many other endeavors. Her physical strength is such a core part of her identity, and we know it's going to be tough for her to be idle for so long. As one friend put it, though, she's been so focused on health that she has prepared herself as best she can for the road ahead.
Shirley means a lot to a lot of people. She has given so much of herself to others, and now we want to give back to her.
Thank you.
