Dear Community,
We come to you with heavy hearts. Earlier this week, Ayana Bass and her mother, Ramona Bass-Kolobe, faced a devastating setback as their home was engulfed in flames, leaving them displaced and in need of assistance to rebuild their lives.
Ramona, a cherished storyteller and artist, and Ayana, a dedicated educator and advocate, have contributed so much to our community. Now, it's our turn to rally around them in their time of need.
more about Ramona and Ayana-
Ramona Bass-Kolobe: The "Watermelon Lady"
Ramona, a force of nature from Brown University's Class of '72, was a rebel with a cause during the '68 student walkout. Known far and wide as the "Watermelon Lady," she's not just an artist; she's a "story wheeler" infusing Jamaican and Native American vibes into tales that heal and uplift. She has a colorful journey spanning visual arts, craft, education, and applied anthropology. Watermelon isn't just a fruit to her—it's a symbol of peace, friendship, and global joy!
