Ayana's Figure Skating Fund 2019
Donation protected
My name is Ayana. I'm 11 years old and I'm an Ethiopian Canadian figure skater. I've loved figure skating since I stepped on the ice at age 3. I started CanSkate at age four and began competing when I was seven. During the 2018-2019 year we moved to Toronto for a year for my mom's work and I've had the opportunity to skate a lot more than I had been skating. I've been training twice a day, six days a week on the ice. I also do five days a week of off ice training (skipping, pilates, jump drills, etc.) I have made a lot of progress this year and am now landing double-double jumps.
Next year when I'm back in BC, I want to keep training twice a day. I will be competing in the Juvenile U12 category and starting some training in ice dance. In addition to training on the ice, I will need to do more off ice training including dance and weights. I want to do ice shows when I'm older as I love to entertain people with my skating. I also really like choreography and try to learn all of my friend's solos.
My mom is very supportive of my skating and drives me to the rink multiple times a day. She tries to take on extra teaching to support my skating, but that's hard for her because she has a full time job and she has NMO (neuromyelitis optica). It's getting really expensive for her all by herself because she's a single mom.
These are the costs for my skating: ice fees ($6000/yr), coaching ($1000/month = $11000/yr), skates/blades (1200 pair), costumes/training clothes (1000/yr), off ice training & physio (dance, off ice)($4000/yr), competitions and travel ($1500/yr).
I would really appreciate any support you can give me to help support my dreams. I promise to do my best and work hard. To give back and help other kids learn to skate, I will be volunteering for the CanSkate program at the Vancouver Skating Club, my home club.
Thank you!
