Cedar River Marina Project

Donation protected

Victoria Creek (aka Cedar River) lies on the North end of the Victoria Creek Community Park.

The River continues to flow approximately three (3) miles and empties into Lake Leelanau which ultimately feeds Lake Michigan.

We are proposing to replace the dilapidated existing docks and inadequate boat launch. The new facility would increase accessibility for people with limited physical abilities and include a lift for individuals with disabilities to gain access to boating. A new kayak/canoe launch would be included in these plans. The project would include limited dredging (100 ft. by 300 ft. and 8 ft. deep) to improve boat navigation and allow for the establishment and maintenance of improved aquatic habitat for fish, amphibians, and turtles.

Decking along either side of the river would allow increased space for observation and fishing. The installation of “shade” pavilions on both sides would provide protection from the sun and light rain/snow. Raising and repairing the existing foot/snowmobile bridge would keep that traffic away from the roadway and allow kayaks and canoes easier access to the north end of the river.

The footbridge and walkways would improve access to the remainder of the park amenities. New landscaping would be included to enhance the “park-like” feeling and connectivity to existing landscaping and greenspace. The inclusion of rain gardens would help control the runoff, of water from near the parking lot, into the river.
