ACL surgery for my sister
My sister, Sasha, tore her ACL in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition and she needs surgery to fix it. The ACL is a ligament in the knee that gives it stability and without it it's difficult for the knee to function, especially if you're an athlete. She can't wait to get back to training - she was starting to prepare for her first MMA fight when she got this injury.
In February, when the injury happened, the doctor said it was a sprain. Because it was taking too long to heal for a sprain, Sasha got an MRI in June and found out that it was torn. After surgery it will take about 4-6 months of rehabilitation, and then she will be good as new. But she will have missed almost a year of training.
We are 21 years old (we're twins - she's on the left in the picture) and we will be graduating from college in the spring. We're funding our college education with scholarships, and we're working to support ourselves. But we don't have enough money to pay for the surgery. Insurance covers only part of the cost.
We appreciate any support you can offer.
