Juniper, una perrita muy feliz de casi 4 años a la que le encanta moverse por la naturaleza tuvo un accidente este fin de semana y cayó por un acantilado de unos 18 metros de alto en la costa brava. Aunque la caída fue muy traumática, Juniper no sufrió ningún golpe de gran impacto porque los elementos del propio precipicio fueron amortiguando su caída y, con mucha suerte, aterrizó en un charco de agua, evitando así todas las rocas que había a su alrededor.

Muy afortunadamente, Juniper no solo sobrevivió al accidente, sino que ni si quiera se fracturó ningún hueso (es una perrita muy fuerte y atlética). Sin embargo, tras llevarla de inmediato al Hospital Veterinario de Mataró, se dieron cuenta que tenía un derrame pleural en el pulmón izquierdo y una hemorragia abdominal de origen desconocido. El derrame pleural se drenó al instante, pero la hemorragia fue a más poniendo en riesgo su vida, por lo que tuvo que ser intervenida de cirugía abdominal urgente para extirpar el bazo y reparar los lóbulos izquierdos del hígado (ambos causantes de la hemorragia). Perdió tanta sangre que tuvo que necesitar una transfusión. Ahora mismo se encuentra ingresada en el Hospital Veterinario de Mataró, donde le realizan monitorización continua durante 24h y todas las pruebas necesarias (analíticas seriadas, radiografías y ecografías abdominales) para observar que la evolución post-quirúrgica y post-traumática es la adecuada.

Los resultados de las pruebas indican una buena evolución! La hemorragia ha cesado, el nivel de glóbulos rojos ha subido y el derrame pleural está casi resuelto. Aún así, todavía se siente muy débil debido a la fuerte medicación analgésica endovenosa que está tomando (morfina y lidocaína) y al hecho de que no entró a quirófano en buenas condiciones, puesto que fue una intervención quirúrgica de urgencia.

Tras varios días de hospitalización Juniper ha recibido el alta provisional 03/06/24 por la noche, para ver si su recuperación mejora en casa con compañía. La vuelta a casa está siendo un proceso delicado. De momento, Juniper siente mucho dolor y se muestra algo desconfiada y con miedos no habituales. Pero creemos que con paciencia y cariño poco a poco volverá a ser la perrita feliz que siempre fue.

Estamos muy agradecidos al Hospital Veterinario de Mataró por la excelente dedicación y la atención recibida. Un lugar que podemos recomendar al 100% por el equipo profesional de veterinarios, los precios asequibles y la relación empática y de confianza con sus pacientes.

Los costes veterinarios en general son muy elevados y por eso nos gustaría pedir ayuda para cubrir parte de estos costes. Los costes totales hasta su alta hospitalaria son de 2,329.8euros (adjuntamos el desglose a continuación).

Juniper, a very happy almost 4-year-old dog who loves to move around nature, had an accident this weekend and fell off a cliff about 18 meters high in Costa Brava. Although the fall was very traumatic, Juniper did not suffer any major impact because the elements of the cliff itself cushioned her fall and, with great luck, she landed in a puddle of water, thus avoiding all the rocks that were around her.

Very fortunately, Juniper not only survived the accident, but not even any of her bones were broken (she is a very strong and athletic dog). However, after immediately taking her to the Mataró Veterinary Hospital, they realized that she had a pleural effusion in the left lung and an abdominal hemorrhage of unknown origin. The pleural effusion was drained instantly, but the hemorrhage increased, putting her life at risk, so she had to undergo urgent abdominal surgery to remove her spleen and repair the left lobes of her liver (both being the causing agents of the hemorrhage). She lost so much blood that she needed a transfusion. She is now admitted to the Mataró Veterinary Hospital, where she is continuously monitored for 24 hours and all the necessary tests (serial analysis, radiographs and abdominal ultrasounds) are performed to observe that the post-surgical and post-traumatic evolution is the correct.

The test results indicate a good evolution! The bleeding has stopped, the red blood cell level has risen, and the pleural effusion is almost resolved. Even so, she still feels very weak due to the strong intravenous analgesic medication she is taking (morphine and lidocaine) and the fact that she did not enter the operating room in good condition, since it was an emergency surgical intervention.

After several days of hospitalization, Juniper was provisionally discharged on 06/03/24 at night, to see if her recovery improves at home with company. Returning home is being a delicate process. At the moment, Juniper feels a lot of pain and appears somewhat distrustful and has unusual fears. But we believe that with patience and affection, little by little she will return to being the happy dog ​​she always was.
