QUINTA DA OVELHA NEGRA

My name is Lance Ramirez, I am the Vice President of JCI Portugal which is an NGO. A little less than a year ago, the Universe led me to meet Fernanda and Carlos and their project Quinta da Ovelha Negra. At the moment I was looking to adopt a dog together with my girlfriend and this was where it all started. After getting to know their story (which you will be able to read below) and their 70+ dogs, we decided together with the whole JCI Portugal team, to share with them some solidarity and take them into our wing. One of the projects in which we wanted to help them was to share their story over the internet using the GOFUNDME platform, which as helped millions of people and animals as well as other worthy causes. I wish I could adopt all of their doggies, but with the love that they get from Fernanda and Carlos I feel they are very happy there and can spend their last days at least in peace and harmony. If you know dogs you can be sure that they need much love, luckily it is provided day by day by these amazing Portuguese couple. Let’s try to see if we reach out goal of 15,000 USD so that the dogs can have proper medical care and good food for one full year. Both Fernanda and Carlos are looking for a job to help pay the bills, but due to their age they have not been succesful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any contribution you can make.

I always liked animals and in 2001 I offered to go to the Montijo kennel because I had a sick cat and they asked me to take it to the vet. It was the first time I entered a kennel and I immediately became aware of the suffering of abandoned animals living in a municipal kennel. I only had two options: either I ignored all that suffering or I would try to help the animals abandoned by the owners.

I decided to start helping the abandoned animals that arrived at the kennel or at well-known veterinarians and thus giving back an adequate living condition and respect for those animals that the owners abandoned. My life changed and became the life of the “pack” and I had to use almost all my available monthly money to treat the animals that came into the house, because everyone that entered the house had all the tests taken, given all the vaccines, put on a chip and sterilized to be healthy and that we currently have 75 animals (including dogs and cats) and so that everything was and for everything to be cool, the ASSOCIAÇÃO QUINTA DA OVELHA NEGRA was created. Given the number of animals, there are always expenses that are becoming more and more complicated to manage and often the money that should be for our food and monthly expenses is invested in the well-being of the animals because we have animals with skin cancer, epilepsy and other diseases that need pills daily, in addition to expenses for vaccines, sterilizations and the food to feed them on a daily basis and it is becoming more complicated because after the Covid pandemic life became more difficult and the money is not enough to cope with All the expenses that affected us, with accumulated veterinary bills that we are unable to pay and we had plans to make more shelters for the animals and improve the existing ones but we were unable to do so.
