I, Eduardo Sapene, my wife Fina and our daughter Michelle are going through circumstances in our lives that are beyond our control, in all aspects, existential, emotional, spiritual and mainly financial unfortunately. Addressing you at this time is not easy, but it is imminently necessary.
Our only daughter Michelle has been dealing for years with a debilitating neurological condition at its core, known as Multiple Sclerosis. The deterioration of her physical capacities due to the exacerbation of this neurological condition was exponential during this pandemic, leading her to a condition of severe malnutrition associated with an accelerated failure of her renal, hematological and electrolyte functions triggered by a severe pneumonia caused by a very difficult organism to treat. On Saturday October 16, she lost consciousness and was taken by ambulance to the nearest emergency center where, fortunately, they managed to stabilize her before being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit where she has remained to this day.
A few days later, she presented a cardiorespiratory arrest, which fortunately responded to her resuscitation maneuvers, remaining intubated and with a ventilator assisting her. Her deteriorated renal condition has warranted daily hemodialysis. Due to her lung condition, it has not been possible to completely disconnect her for the respirator machine, making it necessary to perform a tracheostomy in her.
Michelle remains alert, struggling with these unfamiliar and difficult situations. She is aware of all the details and of our situation as parents, as well as, our physical and emotional fragility from fighting alongside her with the progressive economic burden on our shoulders. Her main anguish is knowing that all the expenses involved in her comprehensive medical care are impossible to be taken care in our current conditions of being unemployed and without any type of medical insurance. All our income, savings and material belongings have been consumed in the first days of her hospitalization.
This is all so new to us as a family, which have worked and fought throughout our lives so that we would never have to go through the conditions of extreme disability from an economic point of view to continue offering Michelle the opportunity to get out of all this ordeal and continue with her illusions of life.
It is not that Michelle is our only daughter, but that she is only 40 years old and have a world of possibilities that moves between her mind and her heart to become opportunities.
Thank you very much in advance for your solidarity and for allowing your kindness, compassion, and benevolence to resonate with our family situation.
May God send you the blessings that we send you from our hearts.
Thank you so much for everything
