Ayudemos a Selena Miranda

Nuestra muy querida amiga, Selena Miranda, mexicana que vive en los Estados Unidos, necesita nuestra ayuda. Hace poco más de un mes, la llevaron a urgencias después de colapsarse en su trabajo. Le encontraron que el cáncer sarcoma que inicialmente le diagnosticaron en el 2015 y que había vencido ya, regresó; esta vez en el pulmón izquierdo y en el hígado.

Dado que este es un tipo de cáncer poco común y agresivo, inició un tratamiento agresivo con la primera ronda de quimioterapia en el hospital Stanford justo antes del día de Acción de Gracias.

Selena ha criado ella sola como madre soltera a sus dos hijas. Dedicó todo su tiempo y esfuerzo a ellas para que pudieran crecer y convertirse en adultas independientes y exitosas. En algún momento tuvo tres trabajos a la vez para poder proveer para ellas, ha superado la pobreza y sus subsecuentes dificultades con una fe y una gracia inmensas. También ha sido capaz de establecerse en el mundo de los bienes raíces durante los dos años anteriores. Una de sus hijas trabaja tiempo completo mientras estudia su maestría y la otra está en la universidad y tiene dos trabajos; ambas se aseguran de hacer el tiempo para llevar y traer a Selena al hospital, y ayudan a su cuidado y el del resto de la familia.

Durante su vida, e incluso a pesar de las adversidades que ha tenido que superar, una de las pasiones más intensas de Selena es dar a los menos afortunados y a quienes trabajan duro día a día para proteger a la población. Ha sido voluntaria en muchos programas y eventos de manera independiente y por medio de organizaciones que apoyan a los héroes y a los necesitados; para nombrar un par: Stand Down, que provee recursos gratis y apoyo para veteranos, y Cookies with Santa, (una recaudación que ella inició y lleva a cabo incluso en la situación en la que se encuentra actualmente) que entrega regalos de navidad a niños de familias de militares de bajos recursos. Con cada transacción que completa en su trabajo como agente de bienes raíces en Keller Williams, se asegura de dar algo a sus veteranos. Incluso, durante su más reciente estancia como paciente en el hospital Stanford, y a pesar de tener una deuda hospitalaria de $65,000 USD a la fecha, se aseguró de dar al personal de enfermería cajas de café y desayunos. Así es ella: un corazón generoso, empático, compasivo y amoroso.

Ha llegado el momento en el que la mujer más altruista que conozco necesita la ayuda de sus amigos, de su familia y de quienquiera que desee ayudar a una mujer admirable en necesidad. Aunque amigos y familiares nos sentimos aliviados y esperanzados de que haya podido ser aceptada en un hospital tan bueno, contemplamos las inevitables consecuencias financieras, que aumentan día a día, de su asistencia médica; especialmente dado que Selena no cuenta con seguro médico. Our dear friend, Selena Miranda, needs our help. A little over a month ago, she was taken to the emergency room after having collapsed at work. It was found that her sarcoma cancer, initially diagnosed in 2015 and which she had overcome, had returned. This time in her left lung and liver.

As this is a rare and aggressive type of cancer, she began an aggressive treatment plan, undergoing her first round of chemotherapy at Stanford Hospital just before Thanksgiving.

Selena has raised her two daughters on her own as a single parent. She dedicated all of her time and effort to them so that they could grow up to be independent and successful adults. Working up to three jobs at one point to be able to provide for them, she has conquered poverty and its subsequent issues with immense faith and grace. She has also been able to establish herself in the real estate world within the past two years. Although one of her daughters works full-time while studying for her master’s degree, and another is in college and works two jobs herself, they both make sure to take time out of their schedules to drive her to and from the Hospital, and help take care of her and the rest of the family.

Throughout her life, and even despite what she has endured, one of Selena’s strongest passions is to give back to those who are less fortunate and those who work hard every day to protect us. She has volunteered her time to many programs and events on her own and through the American Legion Auxiliary to support our heroes: Stand Down, which provides free resources and support for veterans, and Cookies with Santa, (a fundraiser she started and is doing even in the situation she is in) that gifts low-income military children Christmas presents, that’s only to name a few. With every transaction she completes through her work as a realtor at Keller Williams, she makes sure to give back to her veterans. Even while she was at Stanford, and despite having a hospital debt of $65,000 USD so far, she made sure to provide the nursing staff with boxes of Keurig pods and breakfast. This is just the type of person she is: a generous, empathic, compassionate and loving heart.

It’s come time to where the most selfless woman I know is in need of help from her friends, family and whoever wants to help a remarkable woman in need. As much as her friends and family members are relieved and hopeful that Selena was able to be admitted into such a fine hospital, the inevitable and growing financial toll of her healthcare still looms over our heads; especially given the fact that she does not have medical insurance.
