On July 14, 2023 Robyn Ferne Atwater unexpectedly passed away after a tragic accident in her home. Robyn was just ten days shy of celebrating her 9th birthday. She was a beautiful light that will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. This time is especially difficult on Robyn's immediate family, her parents, Rachelle Atwater and Shem and Kathryn Atwater and her 11 siblings.
Robyn was a sweet, sensitive, thoughtful, and affectionate little girl. Her sister Ivy says, "Robyn never knew a stranger and had a talent for winning anybody's adoration within five minutes with her bright smiles, hugs, witty remarks, and genuine interest in getting to know whoever was around. She was so creative and such a talented little artist, constantly gifting personalized drawings to those that she loved. She was full of wild and wonderful energy. She was usually seen with bare feet and wind-blown hair, playing with her siblings and cousins, inventing games and adventures. Her adorable quirks and unique sense of humor had us laughing hard and often. She loved Minnie Mouse, princesses, unicorns, and all things magical or colorful. She was so loved. She will always be loved."
I first met Robyn when she was about 4 years old and one of my favorite things about her was how Robyn's bubbly and funny personality was so big for such a tiny, little person. Robyn enjoyed being in the middle of whatever was happening and whenever I saw her she always had a joke to tell me or something to show me or something she had learned to teach me. Robyn was extremely bright. I have had the great blessing of serving as her primary leader for the past two years and she was usually the only girl in a class full of boys. Her classmates would be eager to give the right answers, often talking over each other. And Robyn would be drawing her picture, not seeming to even be paying attention, and then without even looking up she would quite matter-of-factly give these introspective and comprehensive answers to some very complex ideas.
Robyn loved her family deeply and though one of the youngest out of 11 children, she stood out and was often the leader of her two younger sisters. Last year, when Robyn turned 8, she chose to postpone her baptism because she wanted to wait until after her grandmother had surgery and recovered so she could attend. She then chose to wait again until her brother had returned home from his mission so he could be there as well. She wanted her special day shared with as many of her loved ones as possible!
Less than six months later, Robyn and I found ourselves celebrating another big family event at the Boston temple together as our siblings got married. After becoming fast friends with my nieces, and between the photo shoots, Robyn spent the majority of the time leading the group of five or so little girls on adventures around the temple grounds. At the reception, she joined in the dancing and the games the kids played out on the field. That's how I'll remember Robyn - dancing, jumping, telling jokes, and going on adventures.
Robyn was surrounded by her large and loving family as she passed to the other side of this world. We know she was welcomed home into the loving arms of our Savior Jesus Christ and we are grateful that the families we know and love here can continue to exist in the eternities.
