Sponsored Walk

On Saturday 27th August 2022 staff and officers of Cleveland police and Middlesbrough social services are going to partake in a challenge of walking 3 peaks across Cleveland Way.

The 3 peak challenge will include famous landmarks in Cleveland which are:

Captain Cook’s Monument

Roseberry topping

High cliff (Guisborough)

The walk will start at Clay bank car park Great Broughton and will be finalised in Saltburn.

Those who wish to join are more than welcome.

The route is approximately 24 miles with a few hills involved and we hope to do this in approximately 8 to 9 hours.

This challenge is to raise funds for two worthy causes WWOX and Zoë’s place.

Both these organisations are, and continue to support many in need and this includes one of Cleveland Police’s own serving officers and his family.

DC Richard Sweeney and his wife Emma have two children Sophie and Joseph who have both been diagnosed with WWOX syndrome from a very early age.

Richard is currently a serving officer with Cleveland Police Child Abuse and Vulnerable Adults department, working alongside Middlesbrough social services in the Multi Agency Children's Hub.

WWOX syndrome is typified by early aroxia. Which means children are unable to coordinate the movement of their muscles. This causes problems with their walking, speech and also abdominal eye movement.

Both Sophie and Joseph require 24 hour care which Richard and Emma do, as well as both working full time in highly demanding jobs that ensure the safeguarding of the Children and Adults most vulnerable in Cleveland area.

The aim of the walk is to raise a minimum of £1000 and the money that is raised will be shared between WWOX and Zoë’s place. With that raised, hopefully in the near future a cure is found and for those affected, great organisations like Zoë’s place can continue to support them and their families.
