“SAVE THE SMILE”

Help preserve, protect & maintain this iconic symbol
who stands beside

this small central Minnesota farming community.

Have you seen him? Has he been your pitstop when traveling I-94 on a long road trip through central Minnesota? Or is it that smile that you see that says... you’re almost home. Maybe you have stopped in this small farming community and looked up to see his friendly grin.

He was born in 1920 after the original wooden water tower burned down in an early morning fire. The Village of Freeport had to raise over $12,000.00 to pay for him. Now 100 years later he is that iconic symbol, with his pleasant eyes and friendly smile that has smiled upon travelers for decades.

The Freeport Preservation Committee is leading the fund-raising effort on behalf of our residents and business community to help preserve the famous smiling water tower.

Because of the cost involved to maintain and repaint, we are reaching out to many, near and far.

We would like to keep the smiling skyline not only for our community but for all of you travelers who maybe just need a smile to brighten your day.

The goal we are reaching for is $75,000.00. We will would appreciate everyone who is willing to help preserve a piece of history that stands to put a smile on your face.
