Asia to Europe Swim for Aclaí Gym & Delia Arts Palestine

Our names are Clare and Tiarna Sands. We are Irish sisters and open water swimmers who are fundraising for Aclaí Gym & Delia Arts Foundation in Palestine. Clare is a musician and singer, and Tiarna is a paediatric physiotherapist.

On the 25th of August, we will aim to swim from Asia to Europe, six and a half kilometres across the Bosphorus river in Istanbul, Turkey.

We will swim out of solidarity ; raising much needed funds for Aclaí, a community gym in the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, and the Delia Arts Foundation, who support musicians, artists and their families in Gaza. Their music centre was recently destroyed, leaving children without the means to create. They are in need of financial support to build shelters for these children and their families, and to keep the music playing.

Having spent some time in Palestine in 2021, in particular in the Aida Refugee Camp where Aclaí Palestine is located, Clare has seen the incredible work, heart and spirit that goes into this community space. Parallel to the unfolding horrific genocide in Gaza, the West Bank has seen a dramatic escalation in violence from the occupation, and we would like to show our support to this community.
