K9 Dax Memorial Fund

Donation protected
K-9 Dax served with the Colton Police Department for over seven years.  During those years, he became a valued member of the department, and a loved member of his Handler's family.  Sadly, he developed a rare form of cancer known as soft tissue sarcoma.  The cancer formed and spread rapidly, which caused Dax a great deal of pain.

Realizing that there was no cure for Dax, and the excruciating pain Dax was experiencing, his Handler, Corporal Grimes made the heartbreaking decision to end Dax's suffering.  On July 03, 2014, K-9 Dax took his final ride in a patrol car. He was driven to the Northside Veterinary Clinic where he received his final bite.  At 1630 hours, Dax was humanely put to sleep, with his Handler by his side.  It was a tremendous loss for Corporal Grimes, his family, and the Colton Police Department.

Corporal Grimes is the patriarch of the Colton Police K-9 program.  His dedication, and devotion revitalized a program that had not seen life for several years.  K-9 Dax had been purchased with funds donated by members of the community.  A trained K-9 costs approximately $10,000.  Additional training costs about $5,000.  Due to an extremely tight city budget, it would be unlikely that the city would purchase another dog, with city funds.

We are humbly asking for donations to purchase a new K-9 for Corporal Grimes, along with the funds needed to train Corporal Grimes, and his knew four legged partner.  The money donated will go directly to the Colton Police Canine Association, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit association.  The Tax ID number is EIN: 27-2093818
