Alex's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On July 16th, Alex experienced a significant health episode and his ever-present and loving partner took him to the hospital where he was admitted and stayed for six days. During that time with his partner by his side, an MRI revealed two abnormalities in his brain that are causing significant impairments. Despite undergoing other invasive medical tests, unfortunately, his doctors have no idea what the abnormalities are or what the long-term prognosis is. Alex was discharged from the hospital without a diagnosis and went home for two days only to return to the emergency room because his symptoms grew exponentially worse. He has been readmitted. At this time Alex finds himself in the hospital’s neurology intensive care unit, struggling to hang on, and he is unable to care for himself or to work. Alex will undergo a brain biopsy surgery on 7/29/22. When he is able to be safely discharged he will be admitted to an intensive rehab facility because he will have a long road to full recovery; and he will have incurred huge medical bills to cover.

Alex is always the first person to lend a hand to help others in need from pulling over on any street or even the highway to help a stranger, to volunteering his time at community events and always showing up for his family and friends when they need it. Alex keeps the family in touch no matter where they live, through social media posts, videos, and chats. He gives the same level of care to his friends and holds friendships that have lasted over a decade no matter the physical distance.

Many have asked how they can help, and his family has stated that financial assistance is greatly needed and would be extremely appreciated. Let’s come together and show Alex some of the love and support he always shows others and donate to help Alex. All donations would go towards medical bills, ongoing home health services, food, and housing costs as Alex begins his road to recovery.

For those of you who don’t know Alex very well, here’s some information about him. On April 25, 1993, a gorgeous baby boy, Alexander James Nedd, was a gift born into our family. Alex has been a joy to witness growing from a small inquisitive, loquacious, loud and proud child, to a teenager who always was the life of any family gathering, and finally into the beautiful, loving soul he is today. Alex always wears his heart on his sleeve and he showed all he was feeling about every situation he ever encountered. He has no poker face! When he was 16 years old he decided to come out to his family to inform us so that he could live his life being openly gay. But, this was no surprise to us, at all. Once he came out it was a huge “It’s about time!” relief to the family because we could now show our support and let him know that we loved him and all who he is.

As a youngster, Alex’s dad introduced him to hot wheels cars and car racing on television, and that was all he wrote! Alex immediately was fascinated by the rush of cars racing around the track, and he fell in love with everything having to do with cars and racing. He and his dad have spent countless hours watching racing car events on tv and Alex studied everything he could about the racing car industry and all the players. But, this was no hobby for Alex! His ultimate dream was to combine his other love of communications, his talent for journalism, research, and getting the facts right with his love of the racing industry. He always said that he was destined to become the first African American to be a NASCAR commentator. This truly was his dream, and he remained focused and worked tirelessly for years to make this dream come true. As a child he spoke rather rapidly and with a slight lisp, so off to speech therapy to correct that he went! He majored in every English and Writing subject that he could while in high school, and college was an absolute necessity so that he would have the appropriate education and skill set to pursue his dream.

Alex began his dream career path and formal education by enrolling at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Alex held production positions at KKTV, a CBS Network affiliate and KRDO, an ABC affiliate, while in college. And in May 2016, Alex became the first male member of our family to graduate from college with an undergraduate degree! Afterwards he held a production position with WeatherNation in Denver, before ultimately applying for and getting the job of his dreams at NASCAR! Alex was doing it–living the dream! Last year he moved away from his native state of Colorado to North Carolina to pursue his dream of working for NASCAR. While his job in production has been a dream come true, the move has left him with his support system on the other side of the country.

At this time, Alex and his family have asked that you please not reach out directly to them for updates as there would be an overwhelming number of messages. They just can’t respond to every message and give Alex the attention he needs. Updates will be posted here to the GoFundMe page as they become available. Comments and well wishes can also be made on the page that Alex can read when he starts getting better. Thank you again for all your prayers, positive thoughts, and your support of Alex! Please know that your support means the world to him!
