ROGER JAKE EVANS LIVER TRANSPLANT
Donation protected
My name is Roger Evans; I'm 48 years old, married with children and grandchildren. Most of my life I have had to work to survive even at the early age of 15. I have lived in Pickens County most of my life. I have also been a seehealthy man until 2014. I started feeling very tired after work but I would always say to myself that I had over-worked myself and thought maybe I should get to bed earlier at night. As the days and months went by,I began to gain about 15-20 lbs of fluid every month. Well of course, I said once again to myself, that I knew I had not eaten much to gain all that fluid. I would also have these strange pains in my stomach and it was mostly on my right side. My wife would say to me, "honey, its time you call a doctor". But in my mind, I refused to call and think that it would soon go away. This would come and go for several more months. By this time, it was already a year and half later. When I finally decided to give in, I knew something had to be done because my normal weight would average between 240-260, and when I went to doctor's office, I had topped the scale at 298 pounds. The doctor noticed that all my fluid was mostly in my stomach and he wanted to do a Paracentesis. This is when you have an outpatient procedure done and they draw off the fluid on your stomach. The fluid buildup is called ascites. After several tests were run, the doctor came back and told me that I had cirrhosis of the liver. I was in shock because I told the doctor that I wasn't a heavy drinker or ever had been back in the day. But he told me that my cirrhosis of the liver was caused by some problems within my own body beyond my control. This was not what I had expected from him. Since my diagnosis, I have had 4-5 paracentesis procedures done within 8 months. They can't do it but so much and then it starts to create other health issues. The doctor finally told me that I had to have a liver transplant in order to stay alive. The liver transplant will have to be done at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. Some may not know but I live 4 hours away and I was told that I will be making multiply trips to MUSC before the transplant can even take place. The reason I am asking for any donations is because I can't work any longer and I only receive a small disability check and my wife doesn't work because she is a cancer survivor and she is also on disability. We do what we can to survive by trying to sell at the flea market. But now, I am getting to the point where I can't even do that very well but I have to thank my wife because she is always there to help pick up the slack if needed. These funds would go to help for gas expenses, wear and tear on my vehicle like tires or if my car breaks down, medical bills that my insurance won't pay, household expenses like electric, water or house payments that our checks will not cover due to my illness. If anyone doesn't feel comfortable about giving donations over this gofundmepage, then feel free to send them to our local utility bills. If any questions about this, please contact my wife Cathy Evans. My situation right now is very unsteady and when MUSC calls me in the next week, I need to be ready to go because my life has been shorten and I want to be able to live as much as a normal life as possible with my wife and family. I would like to say in advance, Thank you for your generous gift of any donation that you may can send and may god bless you.
