Lynn Ruane for the Seanad
Donation protected
Dear friends,
I will be contesting the upcoming Seanad election in the Trinity College constituency. It has been a genuine privilege to represent the University of Dublin and its graduates in the Oireachtas over the past eight years. Throughout my political career, I have worked to develop solutions in law and policy which reflect and uphold the principles of human rights, social justice, inclusion, and the empowerment of marginalised communities. I would be honoured to be able to continue my work on your behalf in the next Seanad term.
As a Senator, I regularly strive to step outside of the confines of traditional politics, bringing my work into the heart of communities impacted by political decision making, encouraging constructive engagement with the systems that shape how we live. In the last Oireachtas, my work for health-led drug policy, reform of the criminal justice system, and meaningful action to challenge entrenched inequality had this approach at their core. I would love to continue this work with your support.
Political campaigning in a Trinity Seanad election requires time, effort, and financial resources. As part of my campaign, I will need to reach each of the 76,040 voters registered in the constituency before the poll closes on 29 January 2025. Graduates vote by post from all over the world, presenting both logistical and financial hurdles to communicating with the electorate.
As an independent candidate, I do not benefit from a national political party fundraising network. I do not accept corporate donations. As a result, I will be funding my campaign myself and through crowd-funding. To help finance my campaign activities, I would be honoured to have your support through any donation, large or small.
Donations to candidates for election in Ireland are governed by the Electoral Acts. In general, donations from individuals are capped at €1,000 per year. Any donations in excess of €600 will be declared to the Standards in Public Office Commission. For more information, visit the commission's website.
Any donation that you can manage would be gratefully appreciated. If that's not possible for you right now, sharing the fundraiser in your networks would be equally appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your help, support, and generosity.
With thanks,
Lynn Ruane.
