In May 2009, Libby was taken into Pontefract A&E complaining of aching legs, her dad Adrian thought she was being a lazy child and not wanting to walk, as most parents do. It was a shock to all of her family, that at the age of 5 she was diagnosed with JIA (juvenile idiopathy arthritis), a childhood disease that we were told she should grow out of in her teens. Little did we know, what we had to come next….

Since then Libby has endured countless operations such as ankle fusing, double knee replacements, liazirov frame plus much more. Now at the age of 17 years old she is undergoing chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in Great North Children’s Hospital. As of today, she is extremely poorly but still continues to smile and be positive, despite losing her beautiful hair from the chemo.

Now, as well as dealing with her physical changes and medical needs, she will also need a significant amount of support when she returns home. She will have to endure much more reconstructive surgery as the disease has corroded her joints prior to the transplant.

Libby currently has a manual wheelchair but at some point the ideal scenario would be for her to have an electric wheel chair. Despite Libby telling herself and family that she doesn’t need it, her family knows she does and will in the future but this will only be when Libby is ready for it! Everybody takes for granted the freedom they have of being mobile!

Libbys world has been turned upside down in more ways than what can be explained in this brief summary, the road to recovery is a real challenge but she takes every day as it comes, continues to smile and is extremely positive despite how poorly she is. All of her family take every day one at a time.

We don’t know what the future holds but we do know she will need a lot of financial support as she will not be able to live a life like you and I sometimes take for granted. She will need financial support to set up her own home and a deposit for her first house as she will never be able to have a career in the same way you or I could.

So many people have offered financial support which has prompted this go fund me page, it was suggested years ago but now the time is right to reach out to all that love and know Libby, to help us provide financial support to secure Libby’s future as she enters into adulthood.

Please, please register on the bone marrow donor register, this could save Libby's life.
