Help for Lyra
Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Jayne and I’m raising funds to support Lyra and her family whilst undergoing treatment for Leukaemia. The treatment path is a long one and difficult times lie ahead for all of Lyra’s family and friends. The aim of this Go Fund Me is to help ease the financial burden of cancer and offer support to Lyra and her family.
Lyra, following in the footsteps of her mum Hayley and brother Sonny, decided to join Liverpool Harriers and became a member of our endurance group late last year. Immediately, she made an impact on the group and became very well liked, making friends instantly. Having her brother Sonny in the same group could have been challenging but it was easy to see the special bond between them and how close they were. Lyra immersed herself in our group and it wasn’t long before she was setting up social activities with kids from the group, arranging meals out and trips to town. Her ability to bring people together and have fun is what makes Lyra special. Training nights, when I would arrive and be explaining the session ahead, she would approach me and say “Jayne do you like my nails? I’ve just had them done”. I just had to stop and not only admire the nails but appreciate her zest for life. The nails were always lovely too!
Lyra was looking forward to racing and her first event for the club was going to be the Cross Challenge in Sefton Park in November. Her plan was to have her nails done in our trademark Liverpool Harriers yellow and blue. Her racing debut, along with her studies, her dancing she taught and part time job in Gino’s restaurant have all been put on hold as she enters a very difficult time ahead.
Lyra first noticed a lump in her groin and within days more appeared in her neck. And so began the whirlwind. Lyra was first seen and an ultrasound was taken, with suspected Lymphoma. Further bloods discovered Lyra actually had ‘ALL’ Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia - this is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow and progresses rapidly. Lyra was diagnosed on a Tuesday and had to start treatment on the Wednesday.
This is a very cruel disease and the journey is difficult and very long. Lyra will be fighting this for 2 years and it will have a huge effect on not only her body, but her social life and her family life.
Lyra’s unique love of life and people shines through with most people she meets. She is warm, funny, goofy, caring, determined and very kind. She and her family are terrified by what this new future holds and the upset it will have on Lyra and her loved ones. The journey will be long and difficult but we have to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
Currently, life for Lyra is tough as she undergoes extensive Chemotherapy and deals with the complications that this can cause. Any support or help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
