A Liver For Laura

Help Laura On Her Journey To A New Liver

We are reaching out to help Laura now that she has been accepted to receive a new liver. As her nephew, I and my family have watched her fight this battle as she and Tom (her husband) continue to stay positive despite the challenges. They give so much to their family and bring light into the lives of people around them.

She has been through so much on her journey with her illness with Non-Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis. Laura has been dedicated, courageous, and proactive in her care as her body keeps challenging every effort. Tom has been working hard to keep funds available for her medical bills and to keep their lives comfortable.

Currently, he must travel and manage this major life event and has exhausted their savings & paid leave from work due to ongoing hospital stays and emergencies. His employer is gracious in giving him the time off, but no income will be coming in. They are both amazingly resilient and the family wants to help them any way they can as they are now faced with the challenge of how to pay for this life-saving surgery.

Their funds are depleted and she is on her way to the transplant institute. The doctors are confident that she will regain her quality of life and that her health will improve once she has a functioning liver. They need all the help they can get. Please consider giving to help them cover the expenses.

The funds will go toward:
  • Travel and lodging from NWA to Oklahoma City
  • Bills that will not be covered due to lack of income during this hard time
  • The medical bills that come with the surgery and hospital stay
  • Post-care products & necessities
  • Medications & Monthly Anti-Rejection Injections

Any help will be a tremendous relief. Thanks to everyone and our hope is they can weather this season and have a brighter future.

*** Latest update: I drove to the medical center yesterday (8/4) to have a conference with the liver surgical team. Unfortunately, Laura is not eligible for a transplant because her heart is not strong enough to withstand a transplant surgery. This is heartbreaking. Her kidneys have not responded to the Hemodialysis. All they can do is get her well enough to be able to transport her back to Mercy Hospital. I now know this disease will consume her. She is quite jaundiced from her liver and the fluid retention is going away very slowly from dialysis. The doctors do not have a time frame for this to consume her; could be weeks, months or even years.

I am contacting the hospital here for advice and guidance from their social workers on the best way to get dialysis for her at home. I will die a poor and broken-hearted man but I will spend my last penny trying to give Laura the best quality of life possible.

PLEASE, PLEASE share this with anyone that you can. I am not ready to lose my Baby Girl just yet...any and all donations are received with love and humbleness. ***
