Mollys Marathon

Heyyy my name is Molly Sutcliffe :) I will be running the 2024 Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon on the 12th of May. I am running for Cancer research UK. This charity, as many of you know is extremely close to mine & my families hearts. In 2010 my wonderful dad, Mark Sutcliffe, lost his battle to leukaemia. He was the best dad anyone could ask for, and I am forever grateful for the years we had together and as a family. However cancer took him away from us. Now if I can do anything at all to help one other family from not loosing someone they love so dearly, I will. Cancer research as a charity support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses. This pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives and will continue to with the donations and fundraisers of people like me and yourselves. Additionally I will be running to raise awareness for cancer in general. This decision also comes from a personal health stance. A few months ago I was diagnosed with the BRCA2 cancer gene. This gene increases my chances of getting breast, ovarian and pancreatic cancer drastically. Therefore in the coming years I will be having a double mastectomy (both breasts removed) and other preventive surgery’s such as a oophorectomy to reduce my chances of catching this f*cker of a disease. There are also additional implications which this diagnosis brings to having children. Although this diagnosis has been danghting for me and I certainly have some scary things to face. I am determined to see the positives, and spread awareness for the importance of getting check ups, checking your breasts and TALKING about issues with professionals and your family/ friends. The cancer research charity also aid research into the BRCA2 cancer gene. So I ask for anyone to please donate what you can. 50p, £1, £20 it doesn’t matter, it all adds up. I also know life is hard at the moment and some people won’t be able to donate which I get completely, so of course even a share of my fundraiser or a comment to boost my engagement is amazing and I couldn’t thank you enough. So after my essay… if you’ve made it this far thank you and let’s get running (at the moment I struggle to run 5k) wish me luck! - Love Mol ❤️
