Leon Benoit's Fight Against Covid19

Donation protected
Leon Benoit has spent over 10 weeks in the hospital battling for his life against COVID-19 and complications from the virus.

Leon and his wife Lorraine Benoit raised their family in Billerica, MA, where many of them still reside.  On March 29th Leon tested positive for COVID-19 and was dropped off at Winchester Hospital to be admitted for care.  The rest of the family was instructed to self quarantine for 14 days.

Unfortunately, Leon’s health rapidly deteriorated and before he had a chance to speak with his wife, he was intubated on April 1st.  The husband and wife duo of 40+ years, and their daily conversations - had gone silent.

Within 2 days he had reach a point of major organ failure and needed to be transferred to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.  There he was admitted into the ICU and would receive continuous dialysis along with support from the ventilator.

His wife and kids waited daily for updates from the doctors and prayed with family and friends that things would improve.  Days turned into weeks and while Leon laid in his coma he missed some of his favorite things: Easter with his family, his 64th birthday, and the ability to celebrate Mother’s Day for his wife.  The staff at the hospital was generous to allow Face Time calls of encouragement to help lift his spirits.

On May 13th, after 43 days of long sleep, Leon began to wake up and whispered “call my wife”.  In his weakened and medicated state, he still knew the most important person to check on was Lorraine.

28 days later and he continues to build his strength as he battles the complications of COVID-19.  Severe muscle atrophy limits his ability to move, and bed sores that developed from being immobile for 40+ days.

He is now ready to be relocated to a long term care facility, and continue his journey to recovery.  The goal is to return home to his family, and get ready to return back to work at the Keolis Commuter Rail Road yard in Somerville, MA.

Leon is the primary income provider for his family.  With the extent of what he’s battled and the long road ahead, we are asking for your support.  Any donation you can make to Leon and his wife Lorraine will help them combat the bills beginning to come in.
