Phoebe's Heart Surgery
Donation protected
My amazing 11 year old niece Celia had been begging my sister for a puppy for years, and with both her big brothers out of the house (one currently a sophmore at St. Lawrence and the other a recent graduate of Clarke University) her mom, Heidi, and dad, Jon, decided it was time.
During a trip to a yarn store, the family met a minature corgi (Phoebe's older sister)and learned that another litter was about to be born. When they went to "look at the litter and think about it" they all immediately fell in love with the runt of the litter, I mean, how could you not. They named the little fluffball, Phoebe.
Before litle Phoebe was even ready to leave her mom, the famly got bad news. The vet had found that she had a heart murmer. Heidi and Jon decided to bring her home knowning that her life expectancy could be very short, but she was already a member of the family and they couldn't leave her behind.
After a pricey echocardiogram, the vet found that Phoebe had a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), congenital heart disease . This is caused when the artierial connection that generally closes at birth, fails to do so. One of Phoebe's heart chambers is already enlarged, and without surgery her life expectancy will be very short. She needs to have surgery shortly after Christmas, and Heidi and Jon have tentatively booked Phoebe's procedure for December 28th.
My sister and her husband are two of the kindest, most hardest working people you will ever meet. They would never ask for help on their own, but the cost of this surgery is just too high for them to afford on their own, and their pet insurance denied the claim. I'm hoping that I can help bring them a Christmas Miracle, and that if we come together we may be help contribute to save little Phoebe and keep her in Celia, Heidi and Jon's arms for many years to come.
