Rodney's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Around 10:30 pm on July 9, 2023, my dad, Rodney Roberts was riding his motorcycle in Copiague when he was hit by a vehicle. He was hit off of his motorcycle and flew 2 blocks away from the initial incident. My dad was then rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He has a long road ahead of him, all donations are appreciated. We are thankful he will recover but it will be a slow process.
Update- After being hospitalized in the ICU for 5 days then transferred to a regular room. 1 surgery down, with a broken left hip, left femur broken in 4 places there is not rods, plates and screws throughout his left leg but we knew there was more to come. After 7 days in the hospital we were now on our way to a Rehabilitation facility to start the physical part of this journey. Pain, tears & fear of what he would be facing and the "new" way of living , out of his home in a strange place is just the beginning. As a family we all had to take different roles to help out both our parents while we could. Before returning back to college both my younger brother and sister helped my mom at home as much as possible so she didn't try and do everything on her own.
Rodney is the type of man who takes care of his people. He goes above and beyond for anyone that he can help out, sometimes getting bit in the ass for helping but still goes and helps. He has raised all 3 of us,paid for all our activities and put 3 kids through college. My brother & I he inherited since we came as part of the package with mom lol.
It was 6 weeks and 5 days when Rodney would finally return home being able to walk only maybe 4 steps are so.. Physically he is making baby steps in his progress. He is relearning how to walk, figuring out how to do things that we take for granted like get in the shower, get dressed. As a private, gentle He-Man this has definitely started to take its toll mentally and emotionally besides the obvious physically because he needs help to do a lot of everyday things. Luckily mom would do anything to help him and just keeps things running as smooth as possible.
He has his 1st surgery mid-September on his right leg , the injuries to this leg were horrific. No ligaments, tendons left in his knee requiring a total knee reconstruction to be done 10 weeks after the initial accident, that could require a 2nd surgery.
Rodney & mom are 9 weeks in to our new way of life. The medical bills are pouring in and there are still just your regular monthly bills that are of course always due. Rodney will most likely be out of work for close to 9-12 months if not more .
