Skye's Journey

Donation protected
As some of you may be aware my god daughter Skye suddenly fell ill on Tuesday (16th) night and is now in the ICU at Toowoomba Base Hospital.
Skye's mother Connie has been my best friend for 27 years and is my family. For those of you who do not know my goddaughter Skye you really should, you are missing out. She is the smartest most hard working 17 year old I have ever had the privledge of knowing. Skye is absolutely hilarious, she is quirky, stunning, bright and so loving.

Tuesday night Skye was showering after work and called out to get mother. Skye could not feel the water temperature... Connie turned the cold on and still nothing. Skye lost sensation in her arms and legs, her lungs started to shut down and Skye was immediately intubated and placed in an induced coma.
The doctors at the hospital are baffled at how this could happen and will be publishing Skye's case and monitoring her closely.

We were ininitally told that Skye would be paralysed, part of her spinal cord was dead. Connie was dreading the thought of having to tell her baby girl once she awoke that this was her new life.
Against all odds this determined young woman had a breif moment on Thursday where she was brought out of the coma and was able to breathe by herself. Still with her sense of humour intact.
That night once again Skye's lungs have failed her and she has been sedated and intubated once again.

It is going to be a long road for Skye and her family. Jake is still going to work and looking after their other two children trying to keep their home base going and hold down the fort in the middle of moving house mind you.
My dear friend and sister is couch jumping in Toowoomba, she has had to take time off work to be by her daughters side and unfortunatey Jake's income alone wont keep them going.

Connie's family is going to be going through this hardship for some time. Once Skye is better we still have no idea what care, physio, life aids she will need.
If you can find it in your hearts please donate to my family up the hill. Every litte bit will help. Connie should not have to choose between caring for her daughter and going to work. Put yourself in her shoes, or Skye's for that instance. Skye should not be laying in a hospital bed by herself, she needs her mother and her mother needs her.
