On April 10th, 2023, twenty-one-year-old Baba Agbaje collapsed while doing what he loved, playing soccer. He was pronounced dead later that night. He had no known underlying health conditions. Those who knew Baba knew he was an incredible athlete. He was a three-sport varsity athlete for McIntosh High School (soccer, football, track), a two-time H.S. soccer State Champion (scored twice in the 2019 final his senior year), a High School soccer all-American, and College Division 1 soccer player. However, those who knew him understood that his athletic ability was not the best thing he offered to the world. Baba was the sweetest, most charismatic, loving, and happiest kid of them all. He never failed to spread his JOY to everyone he encountered. And people loved him. Baba was a friend to all he crossed paths with. Once, he was asked, "Do you dislike anyone?" Baba paused, looked at his friend, and confidently replied, "No." Those who knew him knew this was true. And people loved him for his love. His AP Calculus teacher announced to the class that Baba was the type of kid he would like his daughter to take home to her. And the rest of the school agreed. He won Homecoming King AND Prom King. Because Baba was such a loving person, one of his joys was his mom's charitable organization, Bread for Haiti. Baba took several trips to Haiti to volunteer and see the fruition of God's work through the organization.
The organization's mission is to "provide education, healthcare, clothing, and nutrition to the impoverished children of Haiti." Baba's last text message to his older brother was the following: "We need more than the Bible to grow. We need other believers. We grow stronger and faster by learning from each other. When others share what God is teaching them, you learn and grow too." To honor Baba's legacy, we would like to raise $190,000 (Baba wore #19). While Baba will no longer spread his Joy, he would have loved to see the impact he left behind. His service will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at 2 pm at McIntosh High School.
