Baba's Carpet

Hello Baba family,

Some of you will have seen the beautiful carpet that is currently in Baba’s room. You are invited to participate in gifting this permanently to Avatar’s Abode.

The story:

It has been a long-term project to find a carpet for Baba’s room at Avatar’s Abode.

It’s something I’ve personally had an internal conversation with Baba about for over a decade and when I’ve gone to Baba’s room he has often reminded me and asked me about where His carpet is?

My first attempt to find a new carpet for Baba’s room was in 2010, when Amir Naderi and myself brought the two large carpets that are now in the hall of Baba house, from Iran. Several Baba lovers chipped in to cover the cost of these, after they had been trialled, and the community and relevant committees had accepted them.

At that time, we also brought a third, finer carpet, that we were hoping might work for Baba’s room. However, unfortunately, it turned out not to be suitable.

After all these years, and a lot of thinking and searching, I got another nudge from

Baba last year about the carpet.

And in January this year, in a shop in Fitzroy, I found this classic fine Kashan rug, in a gorgeous rare pistachio green, with pink flower and garden motifs, that I felt could fit the job description.

I sent pictures of it to a couple of people for their initial thoughts, and the responses that I got were encouraging:

“Meherazad colours” someone said, “Mehera-green, with Baba-pink”.

I also saw Avatar’s Abode in spring, after rain, covered in pink bulb flowers.

I purchased the carpet, with the blessing of the Avatar’s Abode Board, subject to final approval, after seeing it in-situ, which they have now granted.

While this project has the blessing of the Avatar’s Abode Board, it is an external project. The approval of the Board means that they have agreed, in advance, that they are willing to accept the donation of this item.

The carpet is now in Baba’s room, on loan from myself, until I can privately fundraise the balance of funds to be in a position to donate it on behalf of all contributing members of the community.
