Baby Aiden was a surprise!
On Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 12:33 a.m., Kassie and Shaun O'Connell welcomed their son, Aiden Jorge O'Connell into the world! Are you surprised? Well, so is everyone, and none moreso than Aiden's parents!
Over the past 9 months, Kassie had seemingly normal menstral cycles, and her doctors missed her pregnancy. In this time, she only put on about 12 pounds, and there weren't any common symptoms associated with pregnancy.
On the day Aiden was born, Kassie suffered a seizure brought on by undiagnosed preeclampsia. Shaun called 911, and the ambulance took them to Wyckoff Hospital where they learned that she was pregnant with a full term baby. Unfortunately, baby Aiden experienced some oxygen deprivation and meconium aspiratin (inhaling poop in the amniotic fluid) while in utero.
Currently, Aiden is a post-term baby in NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at Long Island Jewish Hospital. He was 20 inches long, and he weighed a healthy 7 pounds, 13 ounces at the time of his delivery via c-section. He still has a long way to go in recovery, but we are all hopeful that he will be able to come home soon! He's an O'Connell - so he's strong!
Please consider donating to Shaun and Kassie! Since they were surprised with Aiden, they need everything a baby needs, as well as help to pay for these unexpected and very steep medical expenses (from the ambulance ride to the hospital stay to the c-section to the nicu). Let's shower them with love. Thanks so much, everyone.
