Baby Anderson's medical care

Anderson arrived 3 weeks early. Once born, it was clear that there were complications: the most obvious was that he was born without an anus. And that was just the start of the journey his young mother Cindy and his grandmother Blanca face in the little country of Belize to ensure that Anderson survives.

He withstood the first operation to create an anus for him but then the doctors found that he could not pass liquids. His intestines were blocked. Two more operations in his first week of life helped to unblock and separate the adhesions in his intestines. And now, three weeks later, Anderson is finally on the road to recovery, nursing and gaining strength and weight as a baby should.  He is seriously one tough baby.

However, Anderson's medical care has gutted his family financially. His grandmother, Blanca Alvarez, an amazingly resilient woman who is the family breadwinner, works 6 jobs and toils very hard to make ends meet. In fact, Blanca works with me while I work in Belize and she is truly amazing. She has been able to cover several of the bills from her savings  but now she is floored by the medical costs she cannot cover. Blanca has never asked for help, not once, but she is struggling and trying hard to figure out a payment scheme for the hospital and the upcoming costs of all of Anderson's follow up medical appointments.
