Baby Ansel Maul
Donation protected
On November 19th Ansel Maul was born to Tawney and Blake Maul weighing 9lbs.
They always knew they’d be in for a journey when a prenatal ultrasound revealed Ansel was missing his nasal bones and had a pelvic kidney.
As the pregnancy continued, Tawney developed polyhydraminos that was unexplained. Fast forward… when he was born he appeared “normal” until the day they were going to be sent home. They noticed around his mouth was slightly blue. Due to the prenatal findings and his blue mouth they decided to do an echo of his heart. This is when they found he had aortic stenosis with possible coartication, pulmonary hypertension, shunting, and a bicuspid value. He was admitted to the NICU for 13 days.
He was discharged home and was home for 4.5 days before he coded at home. Tawney had to resuscitate him and brought him back. Ansel then coded again in the ambulance. He had CPR performed on him for 120 compressions in the ER. After they stabilized him they rushed him to Children’s. He has been there since Dec 9th.
During his journey he has had several tests, images, and interventions with no solid answers or treatments that have been working for him until recent.
His genetic testing came back revealing he has a rare syndrome called Yunis-Varon syndrome. Less than 1000 people in the USA have this and each of them have varying severity.
After struggling to breath on cpap ram cannula and experiencing episodes of severe apnea they intubated him. Today he had surgery to place a shunt in his brain for his unexplained brain bleeds and had a tracheostomy to give him a more stable airway.
Tawney has been driving back and forth from her home 1hr 20mins away to St. Paul everyday to be with Ansel. After spending the day with her baby she goes home to her other children and mom life. We don’t know what the future holds for Ansel or his family yet.
Due to this Tawney has needed extra time off work.
We have started this page to help Tawney and her family offset the mounting medical costs, assist with gas money, groceries, and unknown needs the family may incur.
We greatly appreciate your consideration in donating to Tawney and her family.
Only Tawney and her family will have access to the funds through the Gofundme’s system.
This will allow the family the option to make withdrawals when necessary.
