“Baby Camden” needs a SECOND BoneMarrow Transplant
Donation protected
Hello to all of Camden’s Crew!
As many of you many already know— in April 2020, baby Camden Kleikamp was diagnosed with a very aggressive blood & bone marrow disorder known as “Primary (Genetic) HLH.” This is a very dangerous hematologic disease with an alarmingly high mortality rate, due to the delayed inability to get a timely diagnosis for most patients. HLH is incredibly rare and even leading oncologists have difficulty making an HLH diagnosis.
HLH leads to imminent bone marrow failure.
There is NO “cure” for HLH. The only hope for a semi-normal life is a bone marrow transplant.
Camden started chemo immediately upon identification of his disease.. he would go on to receive his treatments two times weekly for the next 3 or so months.. he received his chemo in 2 different ways… (both through his IV, and given directly into the spinal column via spinal tap—weekly.) He continued his treatments right up until we left for his first bone marrow transplant on August 7th, 2020.
We left for Madison in early August, and Camden would go on to receive his FIRST life saving bone marrow transplant on 8/18/2020.
Camden & family had to remain in Madison, WI, (4.5 hours from their Escanaba, MI home..) from 8/7/2020 until the night before Thanksgiving in 2020. (11/26/20.) Maintaining expenses in 2 separate states and paying bills at their empty MI home while away..
After a year-long, winding road to “recovery….”
Tragedy struck.
In early November 2021, barely a year post first bone marrow transplant….The Kleikamp family would go on to find out that Camden’s first bone marrow transplant had FAILED…
Ultimately— he’d need a second transplant—very soon.
Camden & family will, again, be looking at a 3-4 month stay (& that’s if all goes great,) in Madison before he arrives back home again from his second BMT.
They will have to pick up their life and move to Madison for a portion of the 2022 year.. Separating a family of 4… down to a family of 3–as their oldest son, Brayden (4.5), will not be permitted in the transplant unit at the Childrens hospital, nor would it be safe during camdens most vulnerable time.. this means the family will be “broken” for many months, along with their pets being left home, unless they’re able to find an Airbnb that will accept their fur babes in the downtown Madison area..
Camden will be brought down to Madison around the end of February/early March 2022 for his second BMT. The family will remain in the immediate Madison area, awaiting their 100 day post BMT quarantine at the hospital/RMH.
Any & ALL money raised through these fundraising efforts will be directly donated to the Kleikamp Family to help offset any medical, lodging, or travel expenses incurred during “Baby Camden” Kleikamp’s second bone marrow transplant
Thank you for considering our story. ❤️
