Baby Christian Fontenot

On January 11, Derek Fontenot, a physical therapist with our FYZICAL therapy and balance team here in Eunice, LA, and his wife  Blaire, a speech pathologist,  with the St. Landry Parish school system  went to the hospital to deliver their 3rd baby, a baby boy, Christian Fontenot. He was welcomed into the world at 12:45 am Saturday weighing 9 lbs and measuring 20.5 inches long! The hospital staff noticed that his oxygen saturation was not where it needed to be and test were run revealing  news any parent is never prepared for, "Your perfect, beautiful baby boy has a heart defect." The events of the next several hours were intense to say the least.  Christian was stabilized and air transported to Oschner's Hospital in New Orleans. Blaire had to be discharged shortly after giving birth to be driven to New Orleans with her husband to be with their newborn baby. They have  2 other precious children, Everett and Adele that are being cared for by family.  Christian has TGA (transposition of the great arteries). He is currently stable and will have surgery Wednesday morning, January 16th, at 8:00 am. The surgery will  take approximately 6-7 hours total. During the surgery, the surgeon will switch the aorta and pulmonary artery as well as his coronary arteries. This is a very complicated yet successful surgery.  Christian will remain in the NICU for 2-3 weeks. Medical costs and expenditures for this young family as they continue this journey will be significant.
