Baby Cobus Van Staden & Family

Donation protected

UPDATE FROM THE FAMILY:
Update on little Baby Cobus: The operation on Thursday went well and the doctors are very happy with his recovery. He is starting to give his mommy and daddy little smiles in between the morphine, which always warms everyone’s hearts. ❤️‍ We would like to thank everyone who has kept little Cobus in your prayers and we would also like to thank everyone who have donated on the gofund me, which was created by one of Cobus’s aunts in Texas The medical aid is not covering all of the expenses and Cobus needs an inverter system to keep his ventilator machine going during loadshedding. The funds that are received on the gofund is going to help tremendously to save up for this inverter and for the medical bills not covered by the medical aid (insurance)

Baby Cobus was born on 28 June 2023. Since day one he has stolen hearts with his cute little chubby cheeks and big blue eyes.
On 20 November 2023, Cobus was struggling with a slight cold and his parents took him to MediPark Clinic in  Rooihuiskraal, South Africa. Doctors started him on a nebulizer, during which time he went into full respiratory failure and flatlined. The doctors and nurses were quick to respond with CPR and they managed to get him stabilized. He was Transferred to UNITAS Hospital that evening and admitted to the PICU. Since he has been on a ventilator and a feeding tube through the nose.
On Monday 25 November 2023, the news came, the doctors are testing little Cobus for SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). This is a very rare type 1 SMA disease, with only 1 other case in South Africa. There is no cure for this disease and only treatment to prevent it from getting worse. The life expectancy of this disease diagnosed in infants is a short 2 years. The bloodwork for these tests were sent to a Lab in New York City and the results can take up to 4 weeks. (Which means that there are 4 weeks for an amazing miracle to happen) On Monday 4 December Cobus will go into surgery, where the doctors will implant a feeding tube into his stomach and a tracheostomy tube. This is to ensure that he can be at home with his parents during Christmas time.
His mommy and daddy need help with living expenses as they have been staying at the hospital 24/7 and not been able to back to work.
It has been a very rough and tough few weeks.
Every dollar goes a long way. And they will be forever grateful for every penny that is donated.
Please help this young family.
