Baby Denver’s TAPVR
Donation protected
Please consider supporting the Wilson family and their sweet baby boy, Denver!
Denver was born January 29th at 4:25 PM with a Congenital Heart Defect. After decent apgar scores, his oxygen never came up. He was taken to the NICU almost immediately after birth and then med flighted to Duke. The team at Duke diagnosed that he has Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return (TAPVR) with an obstruction. Essentially, the veins that carry blood from the lungs to the heart do not connect to the heart the right way, so the body does not get enough oxygen. Baby Denver will need surgery so that blood can flow through his heart. He will remain in ECMO until he can have the surgery.
The surgical team at Duke have decided the best plan of care before Denver’s heart surgery will be to take him into the cath lab and place a balloon and stint in an effort to widen out his atria that has his pulmonary veins flowing through it. The hope is take some stress off of his lungs to make him a better candidate for the heart surgery. This procedure will take a few hours and it will take up to an hour to just transport him downstairs because of ECMO. Just moving him to another floor for a procedure is difficult. He also has a hematoma on his brain from birth and it has gotten a bit larger so he will also be taken for a CT to rule out any bleeding.
Regardless of any donations, please continue to pray for this baby and this family. More updates on Denver and his heart surgery are to follow. Thank you for your support!
