Baby Ethan's fight against Hyper IGM Syndrome
Donation protected
On behalf of our nephew and best friends, Jacqui & David Tierney’s little boy.
This is beautiful Ethan who was recently diagnosed with an Immune disorder called Hyper IgM Syndrome. Hyper IgM Syndrome is a rare one-in-a-million life threatening disease. This places him in a very precarious position with a high risk for dangerous infections, cancer and mortality. The only known cure is chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Without this transplant, Ethan will have a much shorter life expectancy.
Unfortunately, this treatment isn’t available in Ireland and his treatment will be delivered by The Great North Childrens hospital in Newcastle.
Ethan will travel to The Great North Hospital, Newcastle on March 3rd with his parents David and Jacqui to have his transplant assessment which involves several tests to ensure he is fit for transplant.
Ethans siblings Rían, Cadáin, Freya and Bria have all undergone blood tests to assess if they will be a suitable donor match, if none of them are a match, the next step is to seek a suitable donor.
Ethan will receive an expected date for transplant in the coming weeks/months. Once that is scheduled, he will be admitted to the children’s hospital in Newcastle for the duration of the transplant process, which involves chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and the transplant, along with aftercare to ensure engraftment.
The treatment in Newcastle will be expected to last up anywhere from 6-8 months. This is where we need your help in supporting David, Jacqui and the children through the financial burden this will have whilst moving the family to Newcastle to give Ethan the best chance of a normal life.
As both Jacqui and David are unable to work, (both excellent nurses) we are reaching out for support at this difficult unimaginable time.
If you are in the position to donate we would hugely appreciate it, even a share would be amazingly helpful.
Please get involved and if you can share with your friends and family.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and donate.
Lots of Love
