Baby Forte's Medical Battle
Donation protected
After 12 years of trying, infertility treatments, a failed IVF cycle and a miscarriage last year, we were thrilled to find out we were expecting again on December 15, 2022! Baby Girl Forte is due August 2023.
While this is very exciting news for us, unfortunately, we are facing a huge obstacle.
During routine pregnancy bloodwork, and a lot of additonal testing since then, I was finally diagnosed with alloimmunization March 13, 2023. A very rare, high risk pregnancy complication.
To explain it as easily as possible, I had a blood transfusion last year, due to my miscarriage, that created antibodies to foreign antigens and the baby has just tested positive for those antigens which means she is 100% at risk for fetal anemia and hydrops. A rare and potentially fatal disorder. We were referred to a top maternal fetal medicine doctor(the closest option) in LA at the UCLA Medical Center. After meeting with specialist she has deemed that it is necessary for weekly trips to monitor the baby, and possibly biweekly near the end. The only treatment option is weekly monitoring with MCA doppler scans and blood transfusions in utero if needed(hopefully not).
With the distant location and frequency of the trips we have to ask for help. The cost of fuel (300 miles 1 way, $5 gallon), food, pet care, co-pays and the occasional hotel stay(we are lucky that's Thomas's cousin is letting us use their condo the majority of the time) x weekly visits, the cost is truly extraordinary.
If you would like to assist with our financial burden, any donation would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, your prayers, warm thoughts and positive vibes are appreciated too. Please share our story.
