Baby Grayson's Gastroschisis Fund
Donation protected
At 3:47 am this morning, April 12, 2021, my son John and his fiancé Natalie just gave birth to their baby boy Grayson 6 ½ weeks early, by an Emergency C-Section, weighing in at 2164 grams or 4.8 lbs. He is the little brother of Emilia-Rose, who is so happy that her baby brother is finally here.
When Natalie was around 18 weeks, they found out that Baby Grayson has Gastroschisis, a birth defect in which the baby’s intestines extend outside of the abdomen through a hole next to the belly button. Gastroschisis requires surgical treatment to return the exposed intestines to the abdominal cavity and close the hole in the abdomen. When Baby Grayson was just over an hour old he went into his first surgery to put his intestines back into his abdomen, in which the procedure took a few hours. During this procedure they found out that parts of his intestines were not connected to his colon, they had to cut a small part of his intestine and sew it shut. In about two weeks they will connect it back to his colon. After this operation is complete, he will slowly be weaned onto breast milk.
Baby Grayson is in the NICU at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC and he will have to spend the next 2 months in there to grow and heal. Both John and Natalie will not be able to work for the next two months while baby Grayson recovers in the hospital. I set up this GoFundMe up to help them out with their expenses over the next few months.
