Baby Harrison's plight

Donation protected

Hi, we are Sharna and John,
Baby Harrison was born at 11:15am on the 12 of June with an imperforate anus which means no bum hole. He was taken to Brisbane for surgery and this was not something that we were expecting and we are hoping that your compassion and generosity can help us with some the expenses that will occur.

Harrison currently has a bag similar to a colostomy bag and will use that for at least the next couple of months. Then he will have surgery to give him an anus.

We know that everyone is having cost of living issues at the moment and we are no different. Funds will be used in what expenses are incurred in association with Harrison's care. Things like accommodation for us to be near our son, travel expenses, medical needs for Harrison until this journey comes to an end.

Just to clarify , all Harrisons medical needs for his condition are only provided by The Queensland Childrens Hospital in Brisbane, which is a two to two and a half hour drive away from us on a good day.(providing there are no incidents along the way to delay us)

Harrison had his new anal cavity created earlier this year and we as parents were tasked with having to stretch it using metal rods specific to the task ( not a very pleasent thing to have to do) .
On the 15th of may 2025 Harrison had his stoma reversed, which we thought would be the end of this journey and he could live life as a normal little boy but as fate would have it after three weeks he was in distress trying to go to the toilet. We rang the hospital and spoke to his Stoma nurse who in turn told us she would have to speak to his medical team as to what they would like us to do.

After a couple hours my partner got a phone call from his stoma nurse saying the wanted him at the hospital that night, but with myself being at work and not having the available staff on hand to cover my shift so I could leave and us only having one car at this point in time. My partner asked them if we could bring him down first thing next morning which the obliged reluctently.

Harrison was admitted to hospital again on the 4th of this month and was in theatre on that afternoon for the surgical team to check that his new anal cavity was the right size. After coming from surgery we were informed that it had shrunk which is an uncommon occurrence after the stoma is reversed. The surgical team informed us this usually happens after the new anal cavity is made and not after stoma reversal.
So now Harrison has been in hospital awaiting for the surgical team to decide what to do. Worst case scenario is to redo the whole thing meaning that they will remove the old scar tissue and redo his anal cavity which means he will have the stome back for awhile until the new one is healed then reverse the stoma again. This is something that we weren,t prepared for
