Baby Hudson David James Sedore at Sick Kids

On Saturday October 21st, Hudson David James Sedore was born to Kevin and Amy.

We are two of Hudson's aunts, Danielle and Alyssa. Though we are over the moon to share in the excitement of his arrival, our hearts ache to think of the struggles he has faced so far and has yet to overcome.

Shortly after birth, Hudson was struggling to breathe and hours later, began having continuous seizures.

Hudson was then transported to Sick Kids where it was determined that he was battling an infection which had spread to multiple major organs, including his brain.

Our miracle boy, Hudson has shown some improvement in the following ways:

Lungs- At birth, Hudson struggled to breathe and was intubated. They were able to remove this Wednesday afternoon.

Kidneys- Hudson needed a catheter to support kidney function. This was removed on Tuesday.

Feeding- Hudson has not fed independently. He currently has a feeding tube but is tolerating feeds well.

Brain- Hudson is no longer seizing but he has remained on a maintenance dose of anti-convulsant medication. He is likely to remain on it for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, the seizures, infection, and breathing issues have left Hudson with permanent brain damage. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time, but all developmental portions of the brain have been impacted. Possible impact and outcomes include: the delay or loss of motor function, hearing, sight, speech, and cognitive ability.

The team at Sick Kids continues to run many tests and assessments in hopes of understanding exactly what is going on. There are still many unknowns.

This page has been started to help Amy and Kevin cover their living expenses in both Toronto and Peterborough during this time. There will be many trips to Sick Kids and considerable medical attention that Hudson will need. Doctors anticipate many medical expenses that will carry into Hudson's life for the first few years, if not more.
